16,000 cartons per hour with accuracy and expediency

 Supply Chain Management, Inc.

Supply Chain Management, Inc. (SCM) is a key link in Wal-Mart Canada’s vast distribution network. When the retail giant increased growth targets across Canada, SCM partnered with Dematic  to accomplish their new distribution requirements.

The challenge: increase that throughput!

Supply Chain Management, Inc., a member company of the Tibbett & Britten Group North America, is a third-party logistics company that has developed a trans-Canadian distribution network in partnership with Wal-Mart Canada Corp.

Based on Wal-Mart’s aggressive new growth targets in Canada, executives at both Wal-Mart and SCM determined that an overall network redesign was required.  As part of the plan, SCM decided to centralize distribution to three locations within Canada: Calgary, Mississauga and Cornwall.

Each facility was designed with over one million square feet and the ability to process over 16,000 cartons per hour—a significant increase over SCM’s existing throughput.

The solution: integrated material handling solution

Dematic developed three fully integrated systems that include automated material handling processes such as an extensive conveyor network, crossdocking, split- and full-case order fulfillment with pick- and put-to-light, high-rate sortation and voice picking.
